Spanish Language Instructor

Posted on 5/4/2011

In light of student enrollment, we seek to hire a Spanish Language teacher who can connect with students and explain material in a way that fosters meaningful learning. Although we prefer to hire instructors with previous teaching or tutoring experience, we encourage anyone with a comprehensive understanding of the Spanish language--and a good sense of humor--to apply. You need not be a credentialed teacher, and recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. The ability to teach Italian or French would be appreciated but not essential.

As a high school teacher at School for Independent Learners, you'll teach a one-to-one high school class in all levels of Spanish - from Spanish 1 to AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. You'll meet with an individual student, several times a week, to teach a semester of material. We'll provide you with comprehensive course curriculum (lesson plans, activities, exams, and assessment tools), but you'll be able to teach ideas, of your choosing, that you feel passionate about. You will have the freedom to teach in your own style, to speak with your own voice.

School for Independent Learners is a small, private high school in Los Altos, strategically located near the intersection of El Camino and San Antonio. Students attend our school for our personalized pace, our nurturing and fun environment, our challenging UC-approved curriculum, and our flexible schedule. We also tutor part-time students who attend other high schools.

  • Excellent pay, starting at $25 an hour.
  • (Health, dental, and vision benefits for those working at least 30 hours per week.
  • Daytime, evening, and/or weekend hours: our school is open 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week, year-round.
  • Easygoing and intelligent peers and students, and a fun working environment.

To apply, please email your resume to Richard at careers@sileducation.com.
